Why You Can't F#@! Up Meditation

February 27, 2018

“I can’t meditate! My mind is too active. I think too much, I can’t turn off my mind!”

Do you know how many times I’ve heard people say this, verbatim? What’s crazy to me is that this statement is soooo far from the truth. Well, not that the mind is super active but the statement, “I can’t meditate,” not true.

It’s bogus because there isn’t a wrong or right way to meditate. There is just stillness and the intention to be still.

You can’t f-up meditation because more important than the experience you have while meditating is the intention you have when you sit on that pillow, yoga mat, or couch.

Our intention is powerful. When you make the choice (set the intention) to meditate you are telling Source (a Higher Power) that you want stillness.

If you are avoiding meditation because you think you aren’t allowed to have thoughts and the mind must be completely silent, listen up. It’s important to understand that you won’t experience complete stillness every time you meditate.

Sometimes you will feel like you are in the chill zone. Other times it could feel like your mind was high jacked by your to-do-list and the list is holding your mind hostage.

What I’ve learned from “Meditation Hostile Takeovers” is this:

  1. You might think you hold no control over the mind but by setting the intention to meditate and following through, even if it’s only one minute (seriously one minute) you’ve placed yourself in a position of power.

  2. Intention tells Source (the “Big Guns” looking out for you) that you are ready for stillness.

  3. When Source knows you’re ready it sends what you need when you need it. This could mean It sends you stillness an hour after the meditation or five hours after the meditation. Regardless of how much the mind wandered.

  4. Let go of your expectation of what meditation is supposed to look, feel and sound like. Be open to having a personal experience that is yours, unique and perfect for you.

You can’t be bad at meditation because it’s a practice and practices aren’t supposed to be perfect. They are meant to be progressive and learned. Each time you meditate is perfect because you took a moment(s) out of your day to love and do good for yourself. And that is the reason you can’t f-up meditation. Because every act of self care and goodness will reap reward!
